The intent is to provide a solid foundation in the field of Reliability Engineering that will be of benefit to all designers, engineers and procurement managers. The aim of Reliability Training would be to focus on what is needed in today's industry, in particular, the evolving technology where Reliability and Security pose a serious challenge for the industry. Each Life Cycle phase needs to go through a set of specific activities with the help of well-established techniques and use of tools. Our recommendation is to implement a six phase approach from Product Definition, Design, Development, Production, Installation and In-Service. No doubt Design is the most important phase where reliability can be designed-in but Definition phase is equally important as Reliability and Performance targets are specified at this phase. |
| R&M Training Programme Modules |
In developing this R&M Training Programme, we have tried to provide a basic knowledge of reliability principles and techniques that can be used by the designers and reliability engineers. The primary focus is on the problem of managing, quantifying and measuring reliability. The course material includes a number of case studies and practical examples. The details of the standard modules included in Rel-Net Reliability Training Programme are shown below. If required, a custom built R&M training programme can be developed in consultation with the client. |
| Tuition Fees |
Fees are charged per delegate for each course depending upon the choice of On-Site class room based training or On-Line training. Align your business goals and workforce learning skills with the new technology On-line Training Programme and save as much as 90% on our Reliability training Courses. |

The successful implementation of a total Reliability & Maintainability (R&M) Programme depends on a sound Reliability Strategy and a dedicated team of people. The team must have sufficient expertise to interact during each phase of a product's life. In addition to an understanding of the basic mathematics of reliability, the team must possess a good knowledge of design principles, R&M programmes and plans, human factors, and Total Cost of Ownership TCO) including Cost Benefit analysis.
Management must have faith in the benefits of a good R&M programme. In practice it is cut short due to the pressures on the designers if they have no one else to provide support on reliability. Very often, the organisational structure of the design department impedes the development of a good R&M programme. The designers should be familiar with the basic principles of R&M. In many cases, however, designers' lack of training in reliability prevents the development of a reliable product.

| Preface | KSC Knowledge Bridge’s practice based teaching developed with industry experts, guarantees that participants can readily apply their knowledge. The students undergoing this learning are well recognized and successfully engaged in all areas of industry, nationally and internationally. |
| Course Objectives | The objective is to provide a solid foundation in the field of Reliability engineering that will be of benefit for all designers, engineers and procurement managers. The aim of Reliability Training courses would be to focus on what is needed in today's industry, in particular, the evolving technologies in every field of engineering where Reliability, Safety and Security pose a serious challenge for the designers. The proposed course on Availability, Reliability & Maintainabilit (ARM) is being taught at the IKSC Knowledge Bridge through distance learning, CBT and Online. IKSC delivers training and education through technology based e-learning that generates substantial cost savings. However, the busy designers, engineers and senior managers may find it very difficult to attend such courses due to the constraints of time and cost. The introduction of a comprehensive set of courses on ARM by IKSC will provide industry with the language of reliability and help managers to understand what they should expect from their Reliability Designers and Engineers. In order to raise the standards of Reliability throughout industry it is essential that this subject is properly understood and applied during all phases of Life Cycle of a product or system. The ARM courses would be beneficial towards professional development and career opportunities. It is also anticipated that these courses would help the employers who can't find graduates with Reliability qualifications. |
| Learning Outcome | On completion of the module, delegates will learn – How to use ARM (Availability, Reliability & Maintainability) knowledge for Reliability and Safety assessment, industrial fire Safety management, engineering integrity, and risk management for the following Engineering industries world-wide: • Aviation & Automobile industry Electronics Industry • Medical Instruments Industry • Manufacturing Industry • Environmental Technology Industry • Telecommunications Industry • Internet Industry - Access Network Providers, Internet Service Providers, and Suppliers. |
| Learning Enviroment | The module includes lectures, a tutorial, a team assignment, case studies and a virtual company visit. Speakers are senior experts from industry and academia. A comprehensive set of references to compile course notes is provided. |
| Pre-module Study | Delegates who are students on the 4 year Engineering Programme and Postgraduate in Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Aerospace Engineering are expected to read pre-course material and to consult reference literature. |
| Self Test | Questions on Basic Reliability The delegates will be required to answer questions on Basic Reliability and achieve a minimum level of achievement. |
| Post Module Assignment | Delegates will be given a list of questions in Excel spreadsheet format for self-testing their knowledge of reliability before and after the completion of this module. Delegates will be offered an assignment that has to be completed during or after the course. The assignment typically consists of product conceptual design study, modelling and analysis. Successful completion of this task is compulsory for those delegates who wish to get right comments on the final certificate. |
The employers and employees shall both benefit from this Training Programme:
Employers will benefit by:
Training groups of people at their own convenience and training facilities familiar to them
Save administration time and money on organising transport and accommodation.
Providing On-site training accessed within the workplace - reducing travelling costs on external courses.
Very often, it is the cost of travelling and accommodation that busts the training budget.
Providing training at a time to suit the needs and commitments of both the organisation and the individual - utilising quieter periods in the working years
Increasing staff skills, morale and loyalty
Increasing their productivity by staying in touch with the key employees in the case of urgency
Raising profile as a "cutting-edge" organisation
Individual employees benefit by:
Most employees travel during their working time; the business looses productive time on top of paying for the travel costs. Moreover, travelling is tiring and often inconvenient for the individual and bad for the environment.
Rel-Net On-site training programme helps people get back into training who cannot travel to attend away training courses because of disabilities or because they are full-time carers.
Learn at their own pace, and at times that fit around their home and work commitments.
Having access to a route to improved effectiveness and advancement
Having the opportunity to develop their skills for self development and self confidence
The following table shows the tuition fee to be charged for all On-Site training per delegate for each of the modules. The On-site training would be conducted at a location of your own choice as convenient to you - either at your own conference or training accommodation with adequate facilities and the necessary hardware, software and presentation equipment in fully working order.
The course material is supplied on a CD to each delegate with a copy of “Rel-Net Reliability CD 2003”, which contains a comprehensive set of 9 training modules with self-assessment test at the end of each module. The minimum number of delegates should be at least 5 to conduct any training course On-Site. In case the number of delegates is less than 5, the fee charged will be for 5 people to recover our costs.
The amount of fee quoted in this table is in addition to instructor's travel and accommodation expenses. You would be responsible for the arrangements for refreshments and lunch for the delegates and the course tutor for the duration of the training course.
